Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Galway, Vocational School Extension.

218.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the grossly inadequate facilities for students and teachers at St. Bridget's Vocational School, Portumna, County Galway; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that it is the only vocational school in County Galway which has not been granted an extension since its foundation in 1939; that Galway Vocational Education Committee will provide £200,000 towards the cost of such an extension; and when stage 5 will be completed.

I am aware of the conditions at St. Bridget's vocational school, Portumna. A building project to extend the school has reached bills of quantities stage (stage 5).

The rate of further progress is dependent on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's priorities and other commitments. So far no proposal by the County Galway vocational education committee in regard to contributing towards the cost of the extension has been received in my Department.
