Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Beaumont, Dublin, Hospital.

22.

asked the Minister for Health the amount of money spent on repairs and alterations to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 in the past 12 months; whether further repairs and alterations are planned or have been recommended by the hospital board; the cost of such work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Construction on Beaumont Hospital was completed in 1983 and the hospital was opened in 1987. In the intervening years changes in medical technology have necessitated some changes in building layout. In addition some expenditure was necessary to overhaul plant and equipment which had been installed for some time prior to the opening, to remedy defects which became apparent on the opening and to complete essential works in relation to car parking.

In the current year £346,000 has been recouped to the hospital in respect of such works and further capital grants totalling about £300,000 for such works will be made shortly.

I understand that the board is currently considering a list of additional capital works for which approval and funding will be sought in due course from my Department.

asked the Minister for Health when provision will be made to build proper accommodation for junior doctors and nurses at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 and thereby release two wards for patients' use; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is a matter for the hospital authorities in the first instance. The question of accommodation for student nurses and "oncall" personnel is among the various matters which will be considered by the new board of the hospital.
