Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sale of Voluntary Hospitals.

51.

asked the Minister for Health the money which his Department received from the boards of the voluntary hospitals in return for providing them with new multi-million pound properties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will be aware that the proceeds from the sale of the voluntary hospitals, whose services have been transferred to other areas as part of the rationalisation of hospital services, are governed by the terms and conditions of their various charters and that the disposals of such proceeds are subject to the approval of the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests. Discussions are still ongoing in this area.

To date, in addition to certain direct payments by these voluntary hospitals to other health agencies, my Department has received the following contributions: Governors of Jervis Street, £906,889; Governors of Dr. Steevens, £400,000.
