Vol. 385 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Listowel (County Kerry) Church Restoration Project.

9.

asked the Taoiseach if he will sanction a grant application for national lottery funds which was made recently by St. John's Church Restoration Committee, Listowel, County Kerry.

I understand that inquiries were made about the possibility of national lottery assistance in respect of St. John's Church restoration project. An application form for grant assistance from the National Heritage Council has been sent to the restoration committee. When returned this application will be considered on its merits by the council.

Will the Minister of State ensure that when the application is returned it will get very sympathetic hearing in view of the fact that this centre will become the major centre in Listowel for the live arts, an exhibition centre and a tourist centre and will serve many other purposes?

I am fully aware of the Deputy's interest in this matter and the National Heritage Council will examine the matter in detail as soon as the application is returned. He can be fully aware that the application will get every consideration.
