Vol. 385 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Obstruction.

41.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the mainly elderly residents of Father Matthew Square, Dublin 7, are disturbed by members of the Garda Síochána who drive from Church Street across the footpath and pedestrian way into Father Matthew Square each weekday at 10.30 a.m. approximately where they park while attending court, causing obstruction to emergency services; if he will have this practice by gardaí stopped; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that members of the Garda Síochána, when attending court in the area, occasionally park their private vehicles in Father Matthew Square. I am also informed that members of the public including, for example, people attending funeral services in Church Street, regularly park there as well. The Garda authorities have undertaken to instruct members of the force not to use this square for parking in future.
