asked the Minister for Education the number of pupils attending the following schools in County Laois this year: (i) Bridgine Convent, Abbeyleix (ii) the vocational school, Abbeyleix (iii) St. Fintan's college, Durrow and (iv) the Salesian college, Ballinakill.

The information required by the Deputy is as follows:

asked the Minister for Education the estimated cost per year for each of the last five years to transfer pupils from (a) the Bridgine convent, Abbeyleix (b) the vocational school, Abbeyleix and (c) St. Fintan's college, Durrow to the Salesian college, Ballinakill.

The cost of transporting pupils from (a) the Bridgine convent, Abbeyleix (b) the vocational school, Abbeyleix and (c) Saint Fintan's college to the Salesian college, Ballinakill for each of the last five school years is set out below:

asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her plans regarding the future development of the following schools in County Laois: (a) St. Fintan's college, Durrow (b) the Bridgine convent, Abbeyleix (c) the vocational school, Abbeyleix and (d) the Salesian college, Ballinakill.

The managements of the four post-primary schools mentioned by the Deputy have been discussing with my Department officials a rationalisation arrangement aimed at an amalgamation of the four schools into a single co-educational post-primary school.

No final decision has been taken in the matter.
