Written Answers. - Water Supply.

123.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of households without piped water supply in (a) County Sligo, exclusive of the Sligo Corporation area and (b) County Leitrim; and the percentage of the houses this represents in each area.

According to the 1981 Census of Population, the information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

Number of households

Number without piped water

Percentage of total without piped water

County Sligo, exclusive of municipal borough

10,732

2,131

19.86

County Leitrim

8,147

1,815

22.28

124.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make funds available in 1989 to Sligo County Council for stage two of the Lough Easkey water scheme in view of the fact that a large number of homes in west Sligo are awaiting this scheme for a supply of piped water, that all the plans and documentation are with his Department, that site excavations have been completed successfully; and that everything is ready pending provision of the money and clearance to undertake the project.

Having regard to the capital available for the sanitary services programme in 1989 and the competing demands from high priority schemes, it is not possible at this stage to indicate when funds can be made available to finance this proposal.
