Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 14 Dec 1988

Vol. 385 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 9. It is also proposed that the Dáil shall sit later than 9 p.m. today and business shall be interrupted at 9.30 p.m. Private Members' Business shall be No. 21.

I must now ask if the proposal for the late sitting today is agreed?

We shall proceed then to deal with item No. 9.

Are there any proposals to amend the 1970 Act, in view of the fact that details in that Bill provide for people who are entitled to free medical services and a circular has been sent to health boards to introduce charges for a number of medical card services?

Is there legislation proposed in this area?

Not that I am aware of.

For the purpose of the Adjournment Debate this evening, I ask permission to raise the question of Southern Unidig (Ireland) Limited, their work conditions and the role of the Department of Social Welfare in providing cheap labour to that company through the Jobsearch programme.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the matter of the death of another child from solvent abuse in this State and the failure of the Government to bring forward legislation to ban the sale of these solvents to children under age.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.

May I raise on the Adjournment the Government's cancellation of Knocklyon primary school and the future use of the land acquired by the State for the building of the school?

I shall communicate with Deputy Shatter.
