Vol. 385 No. 7

Written Answers. - Welfare System for Gardaí.

41.

asked the Minister for Justice if he proposes to provide a comprehensive welfare system to assist members of the Garda Síochána in need of such a service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I accept that there is a need for an expansion of the welfare service for members of the Garda Síochána. Three additional posts of Welfare Officer for the Force have recently been authorised and I understand that the Civil Service Commissioners will be inviting applications for these posts next month from staff in the public service who are available for redeployment. I am assured that, provided suitable staff are available, there will be no delay in making the necessary appointments.
