Vol. 385 No. 7

Written Answers. - Residence Permits.

51.

asked the Minister for Justice his policy in relation to the grant of five year residence permits to citizens of other member states of the EC pursuant to the European Communities (Aliens) Regulations, 1977 (No. 393 of 1977); the number of such citizens who have been granted one year residence permits only; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Policy in relation to the issue of residence permits is governed by the provisions of the European Communities (Aliens) Regulations, 1977 to 1985.

The number of one year residence permits issued under the regulations in 1988 was 17. Statistics in relation to earlier years are not readily available and it would require a disproportionate allocation of resources to compile them.
