Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - Confiscation of Vehicles.

160.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a favourable decision in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kerry whose vehicles were confiscated by the Revenue Commissioners towards the end of November, 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter having regard to the nature and importance of the export manufacturing business being carried out by the company in question.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that two motor cars were seized from the person in question by Customs and Excise officers on the grounds that they were in the State in contravention of customs law and consequently liable to forfeiture.

One of the vehicles was released for export on 30 November 1988 on payment of a compromise sum, and the commissioners are prepared to release the second vehicle on terms outlined by letter dated 22 December 1988 to the solicitors acting for the person in question.
