Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire, Dublin Harbour Development.

173.

asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the delay in implementing a decision in relation to a marina in Dún Laoghaire Harbour, County Dublin has left the project in danger of not being implemented; if his attention has further been drawn to the money paid for the marina in Kilrush, County Clare in the sum of £1.78 million from the Regional Aid Funds; if such funds will be available for the marina project in Dún Laoghaire Harbour; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The proposed marina project was deferred last year while the matter was considered by the planning review group which I set up. The report of the planning review group became available last December and has been under consideration by my Department since then. I hope to take action on its recommendations in the near future.

I am aware that the proposed marina at Kilrush, County Clare, has received Regional Aid funding as part of an overall integrated scheme. Development proposals for Dún Laoghaire harbour, as outlined in the planning review group report, will be submitted also for consideration for support under the European Regional Development Fund.

The planning review group has produced a report which proposes a wide mix of development options for the harbour. It strikes a balance between the conflicting views of local interests and the requirement for development and Dún Laoghaire harbour's position in a national context.
