Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Regulations.

243.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the regulations introduced under the Tobacco (Health Promotion and Protection) Act, 1988 referred to in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 229 of 13 December 1988.

Draft Regulations to implement section 2 of the Tobacco (Health Promotion and Protection) Act, 1988 have been circulated to the various agencies affected by the proposed regulations, including the State Departments and State-sponsored bodies, for their comments. The comments received to date from these agencies have been positive.

The proposed regulations involve the prohibition or restrictions on the consumption of tobacco products in designated areas in all State and semi-State premises including schools and hospitals; in certain places of public entertainment including cinemas, and theatres and in designated facilities such as aircraft, trains, buses, ships.

I propose to place the regulations before the House in February.
