Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Sports Hall Funding.

262.

asked the Minister for Education if she will consider providing funds from the national lottery for the provision of sports halls at second level schools, which would also be available to the communities in the area of the schools.

The capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities, which is funded by the national lottery, is restricted to assisting facilities being provided by voluntary community organisations. There are no plans at present by the Government to allocate national lottery funds to the ongoing capital programme for second-level schools for the purpose of providing sports halls to those schools which do not possess such a facility.
