Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - Athy (County Kildare) New School.

267.

asked the Minister for Education when her Department will be in a position to provide a new school at Churchtown, Athy, County Kildare; her current proposals for the provision of primary educational facilities in the area; when she intends to implement these proposals; the precise requirements for the area; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Churchtown national school, County Kildare, is a three teacher school with an enrolment of 92 pupils. Following discussion in my Department the architect engaged by the chairman of the board of management submitted sketch plans for a proposed new school building containing three classrooms. These plans are being examined in the context of the 1989 capital allocation for primary schools building and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities at the earliest possible date, I am not in a position, at this stage, to say when building operations may commence.
