Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

39.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in approving grant payments towards the cost of providing a livestock mart at Maam Cross, Connemara, County Galway.

An application for FEOGA aid for a livestock mart at Maam Cross was submitted to the EC Commission in July 1987 and was approved by the EC Commission in December 1988. EC grants are awarded twice yearly, in June and December. Given the EC Commission procedures the time span between the submission of the application and the approval of grant aid in this instance is quite normal.

The decision whether to approve FEOGA aid for a project is, of course, entirely a matter for the EC Commission.
