Vol. 386 No. 3

Written Answers. - Payment of Pension.

127.

asked the Minister for Finance, in view of the service of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 in the Office of Public Works, the total amount of service to the Office of Public Works given by this person; in view of the fact that he will be 65 in March 1989, the deferred pension, if any, which will be payable to him on his retirement; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Office of Public Works records show that the person in question was employed in a non-established capacity by that office's central engineering workshop from 10 October 1954 to 30 May 1967. There is no record of service prior to 10 October 1954. The service from 10 October 1954 to 30 May 1967 is not reckonable for pension purposes because the non-contributory pension scheme for non-established State employees did not become effective until 1 January 1970 and is applicable only to people employed on or after that date.
