Vol. 386 No. 4

Written Answers. - Kanturk (Cork) Flooding.

74.

asked the Minister for the Environment if there are any plans to alleviate the problem of flooding in Kanturk, County Cork, and particularly in Percival Street, Kanturk; and if the necessary information has been available from the local authority in order to facilitate a decision.

On 25 February 1988 I approved a grant of £252,000 for the carrying out by Cork County Council of flood relief works for Kanturk. The works comprised the widening of the channel of the River Allow in the vicinity of the town and they have since been completed.

Contract documents for the proposed Kanturk sewerage scheme which includes works to alleviate flooding in the area referred to by the Deputy, are under consideration in my Department. A certificate confirming the acquisition of all necessary lands and wayleaves, and compliance with statutory requirements, is awaited from the council.
