Vol. 386 No. 7

Written Answers. - Meat Firm Acquisition.

92.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the principals behind the purchase of Master Meats.

The acquisition of Master Meats may be notifiable to me under the Mergers, Take-overs and Monopolies (Control) Act, 1978, as amended. The Act requires the parties involved in a transaction to notify me in writing of the proposal, where at least two of the enterprises involved exceed the financial thresholds of the Act (turnover — IR £10 million or gross assets — IR £5 million). To date no notification under the Act has been made in respect of this transaction.

While I am entitled to require full disclosure of the control of the enterprises involved in a proposal notified under the 1978 Act, because of commitments pertaining to confidentiality of information submitted with a notifiable transaction, it is not the practice to publicly disclose the identity of any party involved.
