Vol. 386 No. 7

Written Answers. - Training Schemes Participants Allowances.

119.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will correct the anomaly regarding FÁS schemes, which require a person to stay on the single rate of payment for the duration of the scheme, regardless of the change in either marital status or financial circumstances while participating in the scheme.

I accept that hardships can be caused to participants on employment schemes where their rate of allowance is not adjusted in line with a change in their position in relation to dependants while on the scheme. I have decided, therefore, that with effect from 1 January 1989 a participant's rate of allowance should be adjusted to reflect the changed status.
