Vol. 386 No. 9

Written Answers. - General Medical Service List.

34.

asked the Minister for Health if any specific over the counter drugs will be restored to the general medical service list; and, if so, when.

A working group of departmental and health board officials and Irish Medical Organisation general practitioners is continuing its work on drawing up a formulary for the guidance and use of doctors participating in the GMS scheme.

Although I await the report of that working group, I understand that it is likely that they will recommend the restoration to the GMS list of a limited number of excluded "over the counter" products. I will give favourable consideration to any such recommendation as may be made by the group in the context of overall agreement to support cost effective prescribing in the GMS through means of the formularly.
