Vol. 387 No. 1

Written Answers. - Installation of Telephones.

61.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make provision for financial assistance towards the installation cost of telephones for those entitled to a free telephone rental allowance; and the annual cost involved.

The free telephone rental allowance scheme covers the normal rental charge for a telephone. It does not cover installation costs.

It is estimated that the payment of the standard installation charge in all cases would cost an additional £0.7 million per year. There are no plans at present to extend the scheme to cover these costs.
