Vol. 387 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cobh, Cork, School.

6.

asked the Minister for Education if she will arrange for the Office of Public Works to have the necessary portable classroom immediately sited at Walterstown, Cobh, County Cork to accommodate the extra numbers.

97.

asked the Minister for Education if she will approve the appointment of a temporary teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Cork, if she will approve the provision of a permanent teacher from September, 1989; and if she will approve the provision of a prefabricated classroom for this school.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 6 and 97 together.

The staffing arrangements in the school in question have been determined in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery. Under these arrangements the appointment of an additional teacher to the school is not warranted in the current school year.

The staffing allocations for national schools for 1989-90 are being processed in my Department at present and boards of management will be advised of the position in the near future.

Should an extra teacher be warranted my Department will instruct the Office of Public Works to advise the school authorities on the arrangements necessary for the provision of a prefabricated classroom or other suitable accommodation.
