Vol. 387 No. 4

Written Answers. - UN Personnel Customs Allowances.

81.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange with the customs authorities for more liberal allowances in the various restricted items for military and police personnel returning from United Nations duties overseas.

It is presumed that the Deputy has in mind the level of the duty-free baggage allowances which may be granted to the personnel in question. These allowances are governed by EC law and it is not within the discretion of a member state to apply more liberal treatment in the circumstances referred to by the Deputy.
