Vol. 387 No. 6

Written Answers. - Meteorological Service Revenues.

34.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the revenues which the meteorological service receive for providing meteorological information for the oil industry in the Celtic Sea; if these revenues will be adversely affected if his Department proceeds with the proposed down-grading of the meteorological station at Roches Point, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Revenues accruing from the provision of meteorological information for oil drilling activity in the Celtic Sea in 1988 amounted to £6,600; the corresponding figure for 1987 was £14,295. Revenue varies with the level of drilling activity and I am assured that these revenues will not be adversely affected by the proposed closure of the weather observation station at Roches Point.
