asked the Minister for Justice the names and functions of the commissions, committees, interdepartmental committees, working parties and State-sponsored bodies established by him and abolished by him since taking office.

No commission, committee, interdepartmental committee, working party or State-sponsored body under the aegis of my Department has been abolished since I took office.

The details requested in relation to the bodies under the aegis of my Department which were set up since I took office are as follows:

1. The Garda Advisory Group: This body was established to act as a source of advice to me on Garda management and other Garda matters in relation to which professional skills and expertise, drawn from outside the Force, can be expected to be of particular value.

2. The Garda Síochána Complaints Appeal Board: The functions of the Appeal Board are set out in the Garda Síochána (Complaints) Act, 1986.

3. Office of the Data Protection Commissioner: The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner was established under the Data Protection Act, 1988 with the supervisory and other functions conferred by the Act.

4. Committee on Fund-raising Activities for Charitable and other purposes: The Function of this Committee, which was established in January, 1989, is to examine the adequacy of the existing statutory controls over fund-raising activities for charitable etc. purposes and to make recommendations for any changes considered necessary having regard, in particular, to the need to justify any consequential costs as well as any extra interference with individual freedoms.
