Vol. 387 No. 10

Written Answers. - Ratification of European Patent Convention.

19.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether there are any problems with Ireland's ratification of the European Patent Convention; when he expects this convention to be ratified by Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No problems are foreseen concerning ratification of this convention.

As I said in my reply to recent parliamentary questions about it, the Government intend to ratify the convention following the enactment of the new Patents Bill, the draft heads of which were approved by them in early September 1988. I have asked the Attorney General to arrange that the drafting of the Bill be treated as a priority matter.

It will not be possible to indicate precisely when ratification will take place until after the legislation is enacted.
