Vol. 388 No. 1

Written Answers. - Release of Irish Citizen.

30.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make representations to the Government of Saudi Arabia to seek the release of an Irish citizen, Mrs. Monica Hall, from prison.

Since Mrs. Hall was arrested and imprisoned in July 1986 the Irish Embassy at Riyadh has been in regular contact with the Saudi authorities on her behalf at Riyadh and at Taif where she and her husband are imprisoned. Embassy staff have visited her on an average of once a month. The most recent visit took place after the announcement of the court's verdict and of Mrs. Hall's prison sentence. The embassy has assured Mrs. Hall that it will provide her with all possible assistance to enable her to avail of her rights under Saudi law. The Government are maintaining contact with the Saudi authorities in the case.
