Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin Zoo Conditions.

279.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the concerns expressed by Zoo Check in relation to the general conditions of Dublin Zoo, Dublin 15 and the specific points outlined in a report issued by the organisation earlier this year; if she can assist Dublin Zoo or assist in bringing into realisation the aims and objectives of the report and proposals of Zoo Check; and if she has any proposals to help the staff in the Zoo cater for the animals in humane and modern conditions; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will appreciate that the Royal Zoological Society of Ireland is an independent body.

In the context of a request for State funding from the RZSI, all matters concerning the Zoo are being considered by my Department.

My Department have received a copy of the Zoo Check report. This also will be considered by my Department.
