Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin European Cultural Capital 1991.

3.

asked the Taoiseach if it is his intention to seek private or commercial sponsorship for the Dublin European Cultural Capital 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The arrangements for Dublin's tenure as "European City of Culture", 1991 will, as I indicated to the Dáil on 22 February last, include commercial sponsorship to whatever extent is possible.

In view of the Taoiseach's manifestation of great form could he indicate to the House whether that form has any substance or has any attendant shillings? For example, could he indicate the amount by way of sponsorship that form might take?

I cannot give the Deputy specific amounts at this stage. The Deputy will realise that we are talking about 1991. There is a fair amount of time available to us to make all the necessary arrangements. It is a bit early yet to be putting specific figures on it.

In answer to a question of mine in February, the Taoiseach indicated that he felt that the appointment of a full-time organiser of the Dublin European Cultural Capital 1991 would be a very good idea and that he would proceed along those lines. Has a full-time administrator/organiser been appointed?

The answer is "not yet".

On the last day on which the Taoiseach dealt with this matter of the European City of Culture 1991 he indicated that a Government decision would be taken very shortly with regard to the appointment of an organising committee. Would he indicate to the House when that decision will be taken?

The matter is under quite active consideration at present, but, as I said, we are talking about 1991 which is a fair while away yet.
