Vol. 388 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cashel Hospital Action Committee Report.

78.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received a written report recently from the Cashel Hospital Action Committee, County Tipperary, which independently assesses the cost of relocating facilities there; if he will make a statement on this report; and if he will clarify the present position on the South Eastern Health Board's decision in relation to the re-location of hospital facilities in South Tipperary.

I have recently received a report prepared by the Cashel Hospital Action Committee on the cost of relocating facilities in Cashel. As the report is being examined by officers of my Department. I am not yet in a position to make a statement on its contents.

The organisation of general hospital services in South Tipperary is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board in the first instance. The development of services on one site is desirable for medical, service and financial reason. I have noted the decision by the South Eastern Health Board that the general hospital be developed in Cashel and I require further clarification of issues arising from that decision.
