Vol. 388 No. 6

Written Answers. - Third Level Education.

92.

asked the Minister for Education, arising out of a recent announcement she made in relation to the simplification of admissions procedures to third level colleges and the refining of grades in the leaving certificate examination, (a) the way in which she proposes to bring about these changes, (b) the consultation which is taking place at the moment and with whom and (c) when the proposed changes will be put in place.

The simplification of all aspects of admissions procedures to third level colleges are being considered at present. The third level colleges in the VEC area have made progress in the simplification of their admissions systems and in the development of a co-ordinated approach to admissions procedures. Also the computerisation of the leaving certificate results will be implemented this year.

Other desirable modifications in the admissions procedures to third level colleges and the refinement of leaving certificate grades will be pursued in consultation with the parties concerned.
