Vol. 388 No. 8

Written Answers. - Kingswood Sporting Facilities.

145.

asked the Minister for Education, in relation to the application from Kingswood boys' football club, Dublin 24, for permission to use the post-primary school land in the ownership of her Department for playing pitches, if she will allow the club to erect removable goal posts; if she will note that the land is not currently in use and that the club will give a guarantee that they will vacate the land on request of her Department; if she will give favourable consideration to this application having regard to the fact that the club caters for 120 children in this area and there is a shortage of playing pitches; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

146.

asked the Minister for Education, given the request from Kingswood Community Centre, if she will meet with them to discuss the question of allocating a portion of her Department's site in Kingswood Heights, Dublin 24, for a community/sports complex; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 145 and 146 together.

I am favourably disposed towards allowing the Kingswood boys' football club to use part of the school site at Kingswood/Castleview as a playing pitch on a temporary basis subject to agreement being reached regarding the terms and conditions which would apply to the arrangement. The proposal is at present being considered in the light of my Department's requirements and a decision will be conveyed to the club as soon as possible.

With regard to the question of allocating a portion of the site for a community/sports complex the position is that a review of the school accommodation needs of the Castleview/Kingswood Heights area is currently in process and pending confirmation of the future school requirements no decision can be taken on the long-term use of the site. In the circumstances I would not be in a position to consider this proposal at present.
