Priority is being given in the work of the examinations branch to the preparations for the running of the 1989 examinations. Work on the preparation of the 1988 Leaving Certificates is being done and it is hoped to have the certificates completed and issued to schools before the end of the current school-year.
The backlog in the issuing of certificates which has built up in recent years will be eliminated under the computerisation of the examination system which it is planned to introduce this year.
