Vol. 388 No. 8

Written Answers. - Petrol Supply.

18.

asked the Minister for Energy whether his Department owns the stock and ration books for petrol; and whether the quantity held is sufficient for the present car population.

159.

asked the Minister for Energy if his Department has up-to-date proposals, including a sufficient supply of ration books, to deal with a shortage of petrol.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 159 together.

As Minister for Energy I have comprehensive powers under national legislation to control the acquisition, supply and distribution of fuels in the event of a supply shortfall. These powers include the authority to implement and supervise rationing programmes for all fuels including petrol as and when appropriate.

My Department maintains an adequate stock of ration books for motor vehicles.
