Vol. 388 No. 8

Written Answers. - EC Nuclear Inspectorate.

29.

asked the Minister for Energy, if it is his intention to set as one of his priorities for Ireland's Presidency of the EC, the creation of a European Commission based inspectorate which would oversee all of the energy installations within the Community with particular reference to those installations which would pose unique environmental dangers and threats to European citizens; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will be aware that this Government regard the setting up of an EC nuclear inspection force as a matter of importance. I will continue to use every opportunity available to me, including the Presidency period, to advance the establishment of a nuclear inspectorate.
