Vol. 388 No. 8

Written Answers. - ESB Power Stations.

38.

asked the Minister for Energy whether he has any plans to find uses for the waste heat of ESB power stations.

There are no plans at present to use discharged ESB power station heat. The function of the ESB is to provide electricity as economically as possible. To obtain the highest possible efficiency of conversion of raw fuels to electricity means that the temperature of the discharged heat is reduced to as near as possible to that of the atmosphere, and is hence of little or no use. Raising the temperature of the discharged heat causes a loss of electricity generation.
