Vol. 388 No. 8

Written Answers. - MacBride Principles.

49.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the attitude of the Irish Government to the present campaign being conducted in the United States to have the MacBride principles adopted.

The Government's view is that there is nothing objectionable in the MacBride principles. We fully understand and share the anxieties of Irish Americans about discrimination in employment in Northern Ireland. The Deputy will of course be aware that the Government have made fair employment a priority issue in discussions under the Anglo-Irish Agreement and that new fair employment legislation is now under consideration in the British Parliament.
