Vol. 388 No. 8

Written Answers. - Motor Tax Renewal Arrangement.

102.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider opening a motor tax office in the northside suburbs of Dublin to facilitate motorists from that part of the city, especially in view of the success of the new tax office in Nutgrove, Dublin 14 on the southside.

A report of a working group on the collection of motor tax is at present being examined. Any proposals in relation to the provision of sub-offices must await decisions on the working group's report.

Motorists have the option of renewing tax, by post, free of charge. A reminder form is issued by computer by the vehicle registration unit to each vehicle owner two-three weeks in advance of the expiry of the current tax disc. The reminder contains pre-printed details of the vehicle and tax due and can be used as a renewal form. The form is accompanied by a stamped envelope pre addressed to the local motor tax office. This dispenses with the need to travel to the motor tax office to renew motor tax.
