asked the Minister for Health the number of social workers employed in each health board area to care specifically for the elderly.

All figures cited refer to whole-time equivalent numbers employed at June 1988.

All non-specialist social workers provide a range of services to different client groups, where appropriate, including the elderly. Thus it is not possible to precisely identify the numbers working with the elderly at any given time. In addition, certain health boards retain community workers to deal specifically with the problems of the elderly.
