Vol. 388 No. 9

Written Answers. - French Bi-Centennial Revolution Committee.

43.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the events and activities in which the recently established French Bi-Centennial Revolution Committee will engage; the level, if any, of public support and financial assistance that will be made available to that committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Ireland-France Bi-Centenary Committee (IFBC) have for some time been drawing up a programme of official projects to mark the French BiCentenary. This will include the opening in October of the restored part of the Irish College in Paris, work on which has already commenced. The committee hope to be in a position to issue a comprehensive statement on their envisaged programme in the near future.

In addition to a Government grant towards the restoration of the Irish College, an amount of £30,000 has to date been made available to the IFBC, from the cultural allocation in this Department's Vote, for the development of the bi-centennial Programme.
