Vol. 388 No. 10

Written Answers. - Used Army Vehicles.

66.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason his Department has changed the system of disposal of used Army landrovers; the loss there is to his Department as a result of the change; and if he will give details of such transactions.

Limerick West): Obsolete and unserviceable vehicles have heretofore been disposed of by public auction. A contract was recently placed by my Department following competitive tendering for the sale as scrap metal of disused military vehicles from which serviceable components have been salvaged for further use. This arrangement was recommended by the military authorities in the interests of security and provides a cost effective method of disposal. About 100 such vehicles have been selected to date for disposal as scrap metal.
