2.

asked the Taoiseach the quantity of bread-making flour (a) imported and (b) home produced in (1) 1987 and (2) 1988.

The available information relates to flour of wheat or meslin in the case of imports and to wheaten flour, including self-raising, in the case of home production.

In 1987 and 1988 the quantities of wheat or meslin flour imported were 51,061 and 59,672 metric tonnes respectively.

Information from the monthly Industrial Production Inquiry shows that an estimated 154,200 and 142,000 metric tonnes of wheaten flour, including self-raising, were produced in Ireland in 1987 and 1988 respectively.
