The EC Commission has recently prepared a proposal to harmonise the processing of animal by-products for non-human consumption on a Community wide basis. The need to regulate this area under domestic legislation has also been the subject of examination by my Department for some time past and the preparation of regulations for this purpose is well advanced. The contents of those regulations will, however, now be co-ordinated with the provisions contained in the EC Commission's proposal which I would expect to be in a position to implement as soon as it is finally adopted.
