Written Answers. - Intervention Beef.

66.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total value of meat stored in intervention in the State at present; the total cost to the State of renting cold storage space for such products during the past 12 months; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The disposal value of intervention beef in store in the State on 31 March 1989 was £88.3 million. The rental of storage space in the State for the 12 months ending 31 March 1989 was £19.1 million excluding EC recoupment.

The rental charge was paid over a 12 month period when stocks were appreciably higher than they are at present.
