Vol. 389 No. 2

Written Answers. - Animal Feedstuffs.

73.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if and when he intends to introduce legislation or regulatory orders to govern the importation, compounding and delivering of animal feedstuffs.

The importation, compounding and delivery of animal feedingstuffs are controlled by EC directives and national law. The EC directives which are binding on member states and have been transposed into Irish legislation by way of statutory instruments provide mainly for the marketing of straight and compound feedingstuffs as well as the use of additives of feedingstuffs. National law provides that before a manufacturer offers compound feedingstuffs for sale he must be granted a licence by my Department to do so.
