Vol. 389 No. 3

Request for Adjournment of Dáil Under Standing Order 30.

I served notice yesterday of my intention to move a motion under Standing Order 30. The motion is as follows:

That Dáil Éireann notes with great concern the imminent collapse of the services provided by the Southern Health Board as a result of the extreme financial crisis being suffered by the board. Dáil Éireann believes that in the absence of immediate action by the Minister for Health there is a major risk to life and health. Dáil Éireann, therefore, instructs the Minister for Health to arrange for an emergency transfer of cash to the Southern Health board.

I ask, Sir, that that matter be considered by you this morning.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it is one contemplated by Standing Order 30 and I cannot, therefore, grant leave to move the motion.

I accept your judgment on this matter, Sir, but let me ask the Taoiseach on the Order of Business if he will consider making time available next week for the matter to be discussed in the House.

It does not arise now.
