Vol. 389 No. 4

Written Answers. - Information Technology.

152.

asked the Minister for Health the expenditure in his Department on information technology equipment, on the engagement of consultancy firms for information technology projects and on direct computer personnel staffing costs in each year from 1986 to 1988, inclusive, and the projected amount for 1989; and the extent to which the management grades in his own Department are involved in the development and use of information technology.

Details of expenditure by my Department under the headings requested by the Deputy are set out in the following table.

With regard to the development of information technology within the Department six officers at management level are involved to varying degrees in this area. In addition, my Department are in the process of preparing an information technology plan for the next five years. As part of the planning process, senior management have been extensively consulted on their information technology requirements. It is hoped when the plan has been completed that these requirements can be met by extending the use of information technology more widely among management grades.
