Vol. 389 No. 4

Written Answers. - Care of the Elderly.

156.

asked the Minister for Health if he will investigate the plight of persons (details supplied) in Dublin 3 who are brothers and who have recently been admitted to separate hospitals, one of whom is physically disabled and the other unable to look after himself; and if every effort will be made by him to place these two brothers in a home for the elderly together.

From the information I have received from the Eastern Health Board, I am satisfied that every effort is being made to have these two brothers accommodated together in long term care. They are both on the waiting list for admission to Brú Chaomhin and are being cared for at present in the Mater Hospital and the rehabilitation unit at the Royal Hospital, Donnybrook. The Eastern Health Board are unable to give a date for admission to Brú Chaomhin as decisions on admission are a matter for the consultants concerned and depend on the availability of beds at the home. The persons concerned cannot be cared for together at present because of their individual medical needs.
