125.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding persons employed by Customs and Excise on the Border post in 1992; if there will be long-term employment for them in view of the fact that some of these people will be considering settling down in the Border region; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 23, 26, 44, 121 and 125 together.

At this stage, it is not possible to accurately assess the relevant staffing implications in advance of definite proposals emerging in relation to the completion of the internal market. However, my Department and the Revenue Commissioners will be keeping the situation under review in consultation, as appropriate, with the staff interests concerned, including those representing the staff serving in the Border region.
